Vapor Honing

Media Blasting

Media Blasting

Also known as wet blasting, this process uses water, air and small media to clean, restore, and seal all at the same time. Vapor honing will also help prevent future corrosion for years.

Using a variety of media types from aggressive to gentle to remove rust, paint and contaminants to prepare any material for finishing or further treatments.

Vapor Honing

How it works

Vapor honing is a surface-refinishing method that uses water, compressed air, detergents, and fine abrasive media to clean and restore materials. The mixture is blasted onto the object, delivering a deep clean that can make metal surfaces look newly manufactured. It’s suitable for many materials, including brass, plastic, rubber, and even wood.

Vapor honing, also known as wet blasting, is performed inside a wet blast cabinet—an enclosure equipped with a pump, blast gun, and air-compression system. Cabinets come in various sizes and configurations to suit different materials, from small parts to large components, and can be optimized for metals like aluminum or copper.

The process is straightforward: the object is placed inside the cabinet, where a mixture of water, compressed air, detergent, and cleaning media is blasted onto its surface. The water cushions the media, minimizing friction and preventing damage while contaminants are gently removed.

Cleaning times vary by material and condition but typically require several hours.

Although gentle and non-abrasive, vapor honing effectively removes oxidation and corrosion. It also seals microscopic pores—especially in aluminum—helping prevent future corrosion for years.

Media Blasting

How it Works

Media blasting is a versatile and efficient surface preparation technique used across numerous industries, including automotive, construction, marine, aerospace, and manufacturing. By propelling abrasive materials at high speed, it effectively removes rust, paint, and contaminants while allowing precise control over the surface finish. With a wide range of media options—ranging from aggressive abrasives like steel grit to gentle alternatives like walnut shells or baking soda—media blasting can be tailored to suit virtually any material or application. Its combination of efficiency, precision, and adaptability makes it an essential process for achieving clean, properly prepared surfaces for finishing or further treatment.

Types of media

  • Glass beads. (Silica Free) Tiny spherical beads made of glass are used for bead blasting. Glass bead blasting is known for producing a smoother and softer finish on surfaces. It's commonly used in applications where a more delicate touch is required.
  • Aluminum oxide. A popular choice for media blasting due to its hardness and durability, aluminum oxide is effective in removing paint, rust, and corrosion.
  • Garnet.  The only eco-friendly abrasive mineral in the world. Its unique grain hardness and toughness guarantee productivity & efficiency. Garnet  is found to be effective in cutting stainless steel, marbles, granite, titanium alloys, glasses, garments etc. with high accuracy to any geometrical shape. Used on aluminum, fiberglass and for removal of rust and mill scale on new steel.
  • Coal slag.  Coal Slag is generally used in a pressure or siphon blaster when paint, rust, and scale have to be removed from steel, such as car/truck frames, tanks, heavy machinery, farm equipment, etc. Coal slag is moisture free and will not pack or absorb moisture. Coal slag is one of the most economical abrasive and is the best choice for large blast projects. Best uses: rust removal, heavy scale removal, paint and coatings removal on heavy-gauge steel.
